Multiple Digestive Enzymes Q&A

Q.Why doesn't Natural Choice Products list the amount of enzymes in the formulations? Is there a unit of measure?

A. Yes, there is a unit of measurement of enzyme potency, called the Food Chemical Codex.
Enzyme growers use this as a standard for establishing their own units of activity. This unit of measure is not a standard unit of measure required by the FDA which can be deceiving for the consumer.

We are conditioned to look at quantity when we look at labels. With vitamins and minerals, the RDI allows the consumer to know the intake of each vitamin. Enzymes are not categorized in this manner and their potency is based on their activity not the quantity. An easy comparison could be - which has more nutritional value. A six ounce glass of diluted orange juice or 6 ounces of frozen concentrate?

Until this is regulated, Natural Choice Products has chosen not to publish Food Chemical Codex units to protect our formulations. Your body and the bodies of your fellow Associates will the the best indicator in the balance and potency of our enzyme complexes.

Q.What is an enzyme?

A. Enzymes are the protein molecules responsible for certain functions in the body such as food digestion, building bones and tissues, and aiding in detoxification. In his book “Food Enzymes”, Dr. Humbart Santillo gives the analogy that proteins are the light bulb and enzymes are the electrical current which lights up the bulb. Enzymes are essential for life.

Q. Why should I take enzymes?

A. Taking digestive enzymes helps to break down the food we eat, helping our bodies assimilate the nutrients contained. While it is true that our bodies can produce digestive enzymes, when we eat enzyme deficient foods our bodies have to produce a higher quantity. This causes a corresponding decrease in metabolic enzyme potential, which can affect the body’s ability to maintain optimum organ function and lead to degenerative disease.

Q. Why are some enzymes taken in between meals? I thought enzymes were for digestion.

A. Enzymes taken with meals help to break down the foods we eat. Enzymes taken in between meals may help with replenishing our body's metabolic enzyme potential, clearing undigested substances from the bloodstream and helping the body’s processes to run smoothly.

Q. What are Metabolic enzymes?

Antioxidant enzymes are a type of metabolic enzyme that breaks down waste materials from metabolic processes into harmless molecules that are easily excreted from the body. They work in the bloodstream detoxifying blood by breaking down free radicals.
